CBI director RK Shukla’s term ends today and the name of the new director has not been decided yet. In such a situation, additional director Praveen Sinha can be made interim director for a few days until the name of the new director is finalized. New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director RK Shukla’s term ends today. A decision has not yet been made about the new director of CBI. Sources say that a high level committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will decide on this soon and by then there will be an acting chief in the country’s top investigative agency.
According to sources, Pravin Sinha, Additional Director, CBI, will hold the post of Interim Director for a few days. The CBI Director’s race includes National Investigation Agency (NIA) Chief YC Modi, Border Security Force (BSF) Chief Rakesh Asthana, former Maharashtra Chief of Police Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, Kerala Police Chief Loknath Behura and ITBP Director General SS Deswal .
Current director RK Shukla did not get an activation
RK Shukla will not be given extension after the end of his two-year term. His counterpart in the Enforcement Directorate, SK Mishra, was given a one-year extension, which has been challenged in the Supreme Court by advocate Prashant Bhushan.
Committee meeting can be held after the budget session
According to officials, the Chief of Enforcement Directorate is always appointed by the government. But in the CBI case, a committee headed by the Prime Minister will be headed by a committee comprising Chief Justice SA Bobde and Leader of the Opposition Congress, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. According to sources, the panel meeting can be held after the budget session.
The extension also has to be approved by the high level committee. Pravin Sinha, the senior-most additional director in CBI, can be given the charge.”
