Corona infected continuously increasing in Mumbai, can lockdown be imposed again?

Posted on February 18, 2021February 18, 2021 by Nidhi Malviya

Even though the pace of corona infection seems to be decreasing across the country, corona infection is once again catching up in Mumbai.

Mumbai: Can a lockdown be imposed once again in Mumbai, the country’s financial capital? This question is being raised because the number of Corona patients in the city has been increasing significantly since the last 20 days. Regarding which, Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra Government are keeping an eye on the situation.

Growing infected in mumbai

Since last February, the number of new corona patients in Mumbai is continuously coming above 500 daily. On Wednesday alone, more than 700 patients were found infected with corona. In recent times, on a single day, a large number of corona patients have been found for the first time.

The administration tightens

Due to this sudden increase of corona patients, the local trains of Mumbai are believed to be started for everyone. Until February 1, only people connected with emergency services and those associated with such businesses could travel on local trains, but from February 1 onwards, local trains were started for common passengers, except for a few selected hours. The life of the city is expected to be back on track with the introduction of Mumbai’s lifeline local trains, but it has also created new problems.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation believes that local trains alone are not responsible for the increase of Corona patients. According to BMC, the arrival of people from other countries and other states is also a major reason behind this. BMC also says that people have started taking carelessness. Many people are neither wearing masks nor following other safety rules.

Mayor Kishori Pednekar took stock

Mumbai’s mayor Kishori Pednekar is going down on the road himself to take stock of the situation in the city. On Thursday, he visited several shrines in Mumbai and took stock of this in relation to safety rules. On Wednesday, he traveled in local trains and also visited railway stations.

BMC says that it is looking into the situation for the next ten days, after that a decision will be taken. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has also said that the government can take drastic measures if people do not stop negligence. The highest number of corona cases are coming from Maharashtra and Kerala at present.
