Delhi High Court seeks response from the government on WhatsApp Privacy

WhatsApp may have postponed its new privacy policy for three months, but the ruckus has not stopped. A public interest litigation was filed in the Delhi High Court against WhatsApp Privacy, on which the court has now sought a response from the central government.

Earlier on this petition, the High Court had said that if someone’s privacy is disturbed by the new policy, then he should delete the app. The court had said, ‘It is a private app and if you are more worried about your privacy, then you should stop using WhatsApp and use another app. It is a voluntary thing.

What is in the PIL?
A public interest litigation was filed in the Delhi High Court by a lawyer on WhatsApp’s new privacy policy and terms of service and said that the government should take strong action against it as it is against the fundamental right to privacy granted by the Constitution. The petitioner had told the court that Facebook-owned WhatsApp wants to share personal information of the people, so it is necessary to stop it.

WhatsApp’s new policy deferred for three months
WhatsApp has said about the new policy that it will not affect private chat. The company had said that rumors are being spread about the new policy. WhatsApp is also working to make people aware of the new policy through status updates and advertisements.
