Congress Rajya Sabha member Digvijay Singh alleged that Muslim areas of Madhya Pradesh were targeted during rallies to raise funds for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. He demanded that a retired Chief Secretary or Director General of Police be investigated and compensated for these incidents of violence. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan hit back at Singh and said that action will be continued against goons and mafia in the state, Digvijay Singh or no one else will be able to save them.
In the last week of December, after the Ujjain, Mandsaur and Indore money collection rallies, there were reports of stone pelting and arson from some places. In a discussion with reporters in Bhopal on Friday, Digvijay Singh said, “I am saddened by the way the violent incidents happened.” Weapons, lathis, swords were displayed and inflammatory slogans were raised while raising funds. Especially Muslim areas were targeted. I oppose it. ‘
Singh’s statement came after Congress MLA Arif Masood met Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains and Director General of Police VK Johri on the issue. Former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh said, ‘Hindus and Muslims unitedly fought for the independence of our country. Those who did not take part in the freedom struggle are working to spoil the atmosphere of the country.
He said that the incidents of Ujjain Mandsaur and Indore should be investigated. Why did the Collector and SP give permission for these rallies? Collector and SP should be held responsible for this. It is strange that police cases are being registered against people whose houses were set on fire, whose tractors and vehicles were damaged and who sustained bullet wounds.
Singh said that these incidents of violence should be investigated by a retired CS or DG and those who suffered loss should be compensated. Singh further said that he too is a Hindu and better Hindu than senior BJP leaders. Our religion has taught peace and respect for all.
Chief Minister Shivraj’s tough stand
Reacting to Singh’s statement, state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said in a video that action would be taken against the goons and mafia and that Digvijay Singh or none would be able to save those involved in stone-pelting or violence. Earlier, VHP’s Malwa province secretary Sohan Vishwakarma had said that the organization’s money-raising rallies were pelted.
