New Delhi: Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director of Delhi AIIMS has taken the second dose of Corona vaccine. He took the first dose on 16 January. Dr. Guleria had exclusive talks with ABP News on all the issues related to vaccination in India, its speed, how and by when 30 million people will be vaccinated.
You have taken the second dose today, many people have not even taken the first dose, what would you say on this?
Answer- I did not face any kind of problem. I worked all day even after taking the first dose. I had no problem. Today I have taken another dose and I am absolutely fine and therefore I would like to say to the people that it is not only my point, if you look at the figures, lakhs have been vaccinated. So do not go to the Afwans, come forward and apply the vaccine. This is the time when you can protect yourself. Because pandemic is not over yet. There is still a fight left and we have weapons and we should not lose our chance.
Do you think there is still hesitation about the vaccine, what is the grace period?
Answer- I believe that many people can be back and forth in taking another dose for many reasons. There is a gap of four to six weeks. You can apply it. People will come slowly. Those who have applied the first dose will apply the second dose.
Because now there is confidence. If you take a dose then do the whole course, then only our immunity will be done, because the first dose is the primary dose. Second dose is booster dose. Only after both, your immunity … antibodies will be made in good quantity, which will give you protection from corona virus.
Vaccination is going on at a very slow pace, if you do this speed, will 30 crore people be able to get vaccinated?
Answer – There are many reasons for the slowdown. Talking about app and distribution, if there is any deficiency in it, then it will be fulfilled. Now we are in such a stage that we can open it. Can do more vaccination. Can create more centers. Pace is there in the next few days, it will become more. But along with this, people should also come forward and get vaccinated.
The two must match. We will open more centers and start giving vaccines to the people of the next phase, then we should start parallel work. We have so many doses that we can match it, so much site that if it matches, our vaccination will jump completely. I think it will happen in a few days. This is absolutely possible. There is no problem in the preparation so far, so it is possible. We have done Pulse Polio campaign, made elections, so we are able to do such a mega event in that way.
How long can it take to vaccinate 300 million people in India?
Answer- It will take a few months because the number is more. If the distribution is too much in the country, it may take time but can be completed in the next 4 to 6 months.
Maharashtra and Kerala have the most active cases. Do you think it is necessary to do something that is not happening there?
Answer- We are constantly saying that proper behavior is necessary regarding Corona. It has been seen in many places that the masking has stopped, there is no physical distance. Such is the situation in local trains and buses.
Here an area is created where the virus can spread. We have to continue testing, tracking and treatment. Continue contact tracing so that the chain of transmission is broken. Vaccination also continued with this. Cases in Kerala and Maharashtra have not reduced so far. Some are growing. There is a need to do aggressive work in some places so that it does not spread to other states.
