New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Cambridge Analytica. Cambridge Analytica is accused of stealing Facebook data of 5.62 lakh Indians. Cambridge Analytica is a UK company and does political consulting.
The investigating agency has also registered a case against another company outside the country, Global Science Research (GSRL). On this matter, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the CBI will investigate the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data theft case.
The CBI was informed that Global Science Research illegally collected data of 5.62 lakh Indian Facebook users and shared it with Cambridge Analytica. It is alleged that Cambridge Analytica used this data to influence the elections in India.
The firm is alleged to have used this data to influence elections in India. In March 2018, several international media platforms cited former Cambridge Analytica employees, associates and documents stating that the firm collected personal information from Facebook profiles of more than 50 million users without their permission.
