FASTag Deadline Extended: Currently, the share of fastag payment on toll plazas is between 75-78 per cent. The government is trying to make it 100 percent by February 15.
New Delhi: The government has extended the deadline to make FASTag mandatory till February 15. Earlier this deadline was 31 December.NHAI had earlier announced to take toll charges from 1 January 2021 solely through Fastag.
Currently, the share of fastag payment on toll plazas is between 75-78 per cent. Meaning 22 per cent people are still using cash.
In order to eliminate the cash payment at the toll plaza, except for one lane, all other lanes have been reserved for fastag transactions. If any vehicle is found in this lane without a fastag, the owner will have to pay double the normal toll fee.
The government’s intention is to end cash transactions on national highways and that is why FASTAG was made compulsory for all vehicles from January 2021, but this decision has been changed at the moment. Fastag was introduced by NHAI. This is a kind of sticker affixed to the car’s windshield, which automatically collects toll charges on the toll plaza electronically.
As soon as your car passes through the toll booth, the fastag will be scanned and the toll charge will be automatically deducted without waiting at the toll gate. After the new order of the Ministry of Transport, now those vehicles which have not yet taken FASTag will get more time.
