ICC Test Rankings: Joe Root beats Virat Kohli, see list of top 10 batsmen

England captain Joey Root had scored an innings of 218 runs in the first Test and now on the basis of his performance, he has risen two places in the list of batsmen to reach number three.

Indian captain Virat Kohli and batsman Cheteshwar Pujara have slipped one place each in the list of batsmen in the latest ICC World Rankings released on Wednesday. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin have benefited in the list of bowlers.. In this match, Kohli scored 11 runs in the first innings and 72 runs in the second innings. Kohli has now slipped to number five with 852 points, while Pujara, who scored 88 runs in both innings, has slipped to number seven. In the bowlers’ rankings, Ashwin is at seventh position while Bumrah is at number eight.

England captain Joey Root had scored an innings of 218 runs in the first Test and now on the basis of his performance, he has risen two places in the list of batsmen to reach number three. He has pushed Kohli back. Root is now 36 points behind New Zealand captain Ken Williamson.

Australian batsman Steve Smith is second, his teammate Marnus Labushan fourth and Pakistan’s Babar Azam at number six. Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who scored 91 runs in the first innings of the first Test, remains at number 13 with 700 rating points. At the same time, Shubman Gill has jumped seven places to reach number 40.

All-rounder Washington Sundar has reached 81st and left arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem at number 85. The second Test between India and England will start in Chennai from Saturday.
