Income Tax New website: On 7 June, the new portal of Income Tax Department was launched. The department had claimed that this website would prove to be a game changer for the taxpayers and would be easier and faster than before, but from the very beginning there were complaints of problems in operating the website from the people. Even after a week, no improvement is being seen in it. One, the taxpayers are not able to login on the website. Even if they are logged in somehow, they are not able to do the transaction. Error starts coming in the website as soon as any kind of document is uploaded.
Despite the instructions given by the Finance Minister to Nandan Nilkani, the matter remains the same.
Initially, when complaints of irregularities in the new website surfaced continuously, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also confirmed on Twitter that the complaints will be resolved soon. Tagging Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys, he wrote, “Hope Infosys and Nandan Nilekani will not disappoint our taxpayers in terms of quality of service being provided.” Ease of compliance for taxpayers should be our priority. Actually, the responsibility of designing and maintaining the new e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department has been given to IT company Infosys.
Information technology company Infosys had also hoped that the problems with the new e-filing website of the Income Tax Department would be resolved this week and its smooth functioning, but the matter remained as it is. Infosys was awarded the contract in 2019 to develop the next generation income tax filing system. The aim is to reduce the time taken for processing of returns from 63 days to one day and to speed up the refund process.
