Sero survey will be conducted once again to check how many antibodies have been made in the country.
The National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), Chennai, under the supervision of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), will conduct the survey in 70 districts, covering around 30,000 people. So far, sero survey has been done in the country twice.
According to ICMR, data will be sent from online portals after taking samples from all states and after investigation. NIE will submit its report to the Central Government. A senior ICMR official said that this time health workers along with the general public will also be included in the survey to find out the status of infection.
Its purpose is to find out how much they have been affected by the virus. The survey will begin this week, which will be completed in the first week of January. In the earlier two surveys, only about 30,000 thousand people participated. Results will be revealed before vaccination.
Dr. Samiran Panda of ICMR said that the results of the survey will be shared with the government before vaccination. Based on this, it will be known how much corona has spread at the rural and urban levels. The first sero survey took place in May, when there was a lockdown.
During that time, less than one percent people were found to be infected. Antibodies were found in about seven percent of people in the second survey conducted between 17 August and 22 September.
Whether the infected need a vaccine
Dr. Manoj, director of NIE, says that the purpose of this survey is to find out before the vaccination whether the infected need vaccines. Also, the level of antibodies can be estimated before vaccination.
He told that till some time there was a discussion that people should be tested before the vaccine so that they know what the level of antibodies in their body is. However, it has not been decided yet, but the government can also deny it.
