A potentially more infectious variant, called 501.V2, was found in South Africa earlier this month. Earlier, after a new variant was identified in the UK, which was potentially more viral, Pune Local officials of the district started collecting information about those people who returned from Britain between 25 November. After this, flights from the country were banned on 22 December.
Strain has been found in four passengers
According to the district administration, a total of 512 individuals who returned to Pune from the UK between 25 November and 23 December have been identified from data received from various airlines so far. Strain has been found in four of them. Since there is no direct flight to the UK in Pune, most of the passengers coming to Mumbai then go to Pune by road.
