Farmers are saying that Modi ji give us the guarantee of MSP, the Modi government at the center has also said that we are ready to give assurance on MSP in writing.
Should farmers get one and a half times the price of their crops or not?
This is the question to which everyone will answer yes. Leave it to everyone else, the Modi government at the center itself is answering yes in this matter.
Now think if even the Modi government agrees on this matter, then why is the farmer movement? And why is there agitation on the road under the open sky amid such harsh cold in Delhi?
Farmers are saying that Modi ji give us the guarantee of MSP, the Modi government at the center has also said that we are ready to give assurance on MSP in writing.
So is the farmer forcibly agitating or are some people putting guns on the farmers’ shoulders as the central government is claiming?
Now understand this matter properly. Understood what the farmers are looking for and what the government is giving assurances.
Demand of farmers
Farmers demand that the Modi government at the center give them a guarantee that in the coming tomorrow, no matter who buys their crop. Whether it is government or businessman or company. But only buy at MSP or above price.
Problem or issue
The government is talking about continuing the existing system of MSP while the farmers want a new system of MSP. The problem with the current MSP system is that the Central Government declares MSP of a total of 23 crops but buys mainly two crops, wheat and rice / rice.
Take a look and see how much of the government buys the total yield. In the year 2019-20, there was 1184 lakh tonnes of rice in the country, the government purchased 511 lakh tonnes. 1076 lakh tonnes of wheat, 390 lakh tonnes purchased. The government does not buy every crop.
That is, in the current system, the farmer has no such option that if he feels that a private trader or company is buying his crop at a quarter to one, then he should sell his crop to the government at the minimum support price. Therefore, farmers want to make the system strong in this case.
Question- Why Punjab-Haryana is at the forefront?
In the current MSP system, the government buys the maximum wheat and rice from Punjab and Haryana at the minimum support price (MSP), so the farmers there are most apprehensive that if the government ends the MSP, what will happen to us? But the question arises that if the government is ready to give in writing that the current system will continue, then why are the farmers of Punjab and Haryana apprehensive?
Answer- Actually, every year the government keeps revising its procurement target and decides how much grain should be purchased. That is, the government purchase of the grain of the farmer on the MSP is not such that the farmer will produce any grain and the government will buy the whole.
Real demand of farmer
Therefore, the demand of farmers is that the government should make laws that whether a farmer buys a crop, a trader buys a private company or the government. KMS is not just below MSP or above.
Modi government has promised to double farmers’ income by 2022. In such a situation, what are the farmers asking for wrong? The farmers are demanding only what the Modi government is trying to give.
