The fresh snowfall in the Kashmir Valley has not only affected the air services but also the Jammu-Srinagar highway has had to be closed. In many areas, thick layers of snow have accumulated from four ins to one feet.
The snowfall has once again disrupted life in the Kashmir Valley. The valley has lost contact with other places due to snowfall. Its impact has not only been on the airways but also on the roads. Air service, which started five days later on Thursday, had to be closed again today.
The snowfall continues in the Kashmir Valley since this morning and snow has accumulated from four inches to one feet in various areas.
Fresh snowfall disrupts life in Kashmir Valley
Due to the accumulation of about four inches of snow in Srinagar, the roads became slippery due to which the traffic was completely stopped. In south Kashmir, normal life was severely affected due to snowfall of up to one feet in various areas of Kulgam, Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian.
Air services halted and Jammu-Srinagar highway closed
The road was opened for vehicles late yesterday evening but due to the snowfall this morning, the road had to be closed again. All flights flying from Srinagar International Airport have been canceled. It consists of 28 regular and 14 additional flights.
However, this season has brought happiness for tourists visiting Kashmir. Especially for tourists who come to Kashmir only to see the snowfall. According to the tourism department, more than five thousand tourists have reached Kashmir in the last two days.
The department has forecast an improvement in the weather till this evening and has predicted dry weather after Sunday. The Meteorological Department says that due to the absence of any western disturbance till January 20, there is no forecast of snowfall in Kashmir.
