Ladakh: This time the cold has disturbed the lives of people in Ladakh. The first snowfall and the subsequent cold have derailed life. All the pipelines for drinking water are frozen in the cold winter. People have had to depend on natural wells to fulfill their needs. The cold is so much that even the rivers and streams have formed the shape of solid snow.
Cold disrupted life in Ladakh
Running of vehicles has become difficult due to increasing slippery roads. It is impossible to restart once the vehicle is stopped. Due to the cold, diesel kept in the tank of vehicles has also started to freeze.
The worst is that of milk and butter brought to the market of the local people. Normally, people used to bring milk market in plastic bottles in Kargil and Dras, but due to cold, milk has started to freeze. Butter becomes so solid that even with a knife, it cannot be cut.
Business and vehicles are also affected
Markets of Kargil and Drass are also deserted due to cold. A few shops are open. However, whatever the circumstances, life only finds its way. In the icy desert, the way to compete with nature has come as a sheet trek. The Chadar trek, which started from 14 January, is carried out during the winter in the Zanskar valley of the Ladakh region, which helps the locals and tourists in the Zanskar valley to use it.
