Shortly after filing nomination of BJP candidates for UP Legislative Council elections, Mahesh Chandra Sharma of Kanpur also filed nomination. This has made the election for 12 seats interesting.
Explain that SP has fielded two candidates in the form of Ahmed Hasan and Rajendra Chaudhary. Mahesh Chandra had also filed nomination in the Rajya Sabha election. They do not have a proposer. Sharma has played important positions in Gujarat, as Secretary to the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Secretary in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office since 2014. Nominations will be filed by 3 pm on January 18 for the elections for the 12 seats of the council. Nomination papers will be examined on January 19. Candidates will be able to withdraw their names by January 21. Prior to this, two candidates of SP have filed nominations.
However, SP will have a majority in the Upper House.
The SP currently has 55 members in the 100-member Legislative Council. In the 12 seats going to polls, SP had 6 members.
He is confident of two members winning. In such a situation, SP may lose 4 members. After January 30, the SP will have 51 members in the Upper House. Even then, the SP will remain the majority in the council.
