UP: ‘Time Capsule’ buried in AMU campus, 100 years of history is cherished

The AMU administration decided to bury the time capsule in the campus for the benefit of future generations. The administration says that many important documents have been preserved through it.

Aligarh: A time capsule (Kaal Patra) documenting the 100-year history of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was buried in the ground in front of Victoria Gate on the university campus on Tuesday.

100 years of history

Vice Chancellor of AMU Professor Tariq Mansoor addressed the digital ceremony organized on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day. He said that the 100-year history of this excellent institution in the country is to be stored in a time capsule and is very important and beneficial for future generations.

Sources in the AMU said that all the historical documents, preserving the history of the last 100 years of the university, have been preserved in the time capsule buried in the ground in front of Victoria Gate of the university campus.

Future generations will benefit

He said that these historical documents have been preserved with the help of state-of-the-art technology and materials so that they can be preserved for a long time and can benefit from it for generations to come.

The documents kept in the time capsule include a brief description of all the convocation held at the university so far, a copy of the AMU Act of the year 1920, the book by Sir Syed and the album by noted historian Professor Khalid Ahmad Nizami.

Decision to extract real time capsule

AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar said that the university administration at the time of the establishment of the Muslim Anglo Oriental College in 1877, decided to take out the original time capsule buried on the campus. For this a committee has been formed, which will supervise this process.

He informed that all the historical documents preserved in the time capsule at that time would be shared with the scholars and would also be preserved by giving them digital form.
